After your tooth has been prepped, your dentist will take a digital impression of your mouth. You don’t have to hold a messy or foul-tasting material in your mouth for several minutes. The scan is sent to CAD/CAM software, where your dentist will set the specifics for your crown to look natural. 

Once all the final details have been set, the information is sent to an in-office milling machine, where your crown will be cut from a single block of ceramic material in about 1 hour. Your dentist will bond your crown to your tooth, and you’ll walk out of their office with a restoration that looks and feels natural. There’s no need for a temporary restoration or a second appointment.

Recovering from Getting a Dental Crown

It can take a few hours for the numbing medication to wear off. Once it dissipates, your mouth may be tender for a few days. You can manage it with an over-the-counter pain reliever and eating soft foods. You won’t have to worry about a long or painful recovery.

Although it may take a few days to get used to your crown, in no time at all, you may forget it is there. Your restoration can serve you for many years with the correct care, like brushing and flossing. Your tooth will have the protection it needs to last for a lifetime.
